Not Every Actor in Hollywood Is Happy About the SAG-AFTRA Strike

Stephen Amell has recently voiced his disapproval of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA Strike in Hollywood. He is well-known for portraying the superhero Green Arrow in the CW series Arrow and the star of the series Heels.

Attending GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, Amell shared his thoughts on the strike during a Q&A session, referring to it as “myopic” and a “reductive negotiating tactic.”

Amell expressed his support for his union but firmly stated that he does not endorse striking as a means of negotiation.

He considers the entire situation to be incredibly frustrating, particularly in the context of the premiere of his series Heels, which returned for a second season on Starz.

According to SAG Strike guidelines, Guild members cannot participate in conventions. This includes appearances and panels, involving struck work.

However, Amell attended the convention to interact with fans and sign autographs, not to promote Heels or any other projects affected by the strike.

Despite Amell’s stance, nearly 98% of SAG-AFTRA members voted in favor of the strike, which was initiated by the actors’ union against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers in July.

This marked the first dual strike in 63 years, with the Writers Guild of America also on strike since May.

While Amell may not have technically violated SAG rules, his comments have garnered mixed reactions from others in the industry, particularly members of the Arrowverse.

Matt Letscher, who played Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash on CW’s The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, tweeted a response, sarcastically requesting a list of “totally non-reductive negotiating tactics.

” Similarly, actor Kirk Acevedo, known for his role as the antagonist Ricardo Diaz/The Dragon on Arrow, retweeted an article about Amell’s comments and expressed his discontent with a blunt “This f**king guy.”

In conclusion, Stephen Amell’s public opposition to the SAG-AFTRA strike has caused a stir in the entertainment industry. While he stands by his union, he disagrees with the approach of striking.

As the strike continues to impact Hollywood, the reactions from both fellow actors and fans reflect the complexities of labor negotiations in the entertainment world.
