This prestigious award stands as one of the four major annual American entertainment honors, alongside the Grammy for music, the Oscar (Academy Award) for film, and the Tony for stage theatre.

The iconic Emmy statuette, portraying a winged woman cradling an atom, derived its name from “immy,” which served as an informal term for the image orthicon tube, a prevalent component of early television cameras.
