Buyers need to check coolers for explicit frozen food items sold at a few retailers across the country. Minneapolis-based Sunrise Growers Inc., an auxiliary of SunOpta Inc., is reviewing frozen natural product items for contamination with listeria monocytogenes.

Bacteria:

Listeria, a bacteria, can affect children, elders, or immune-deficient people.  Symptoms include high fever, nausea, diarrhea, stiffness, headache, or stomach ache. Unborn babies may get affected, causing stillbirths or even miscarriages. No diseases related to this deliberate review have been recorded.

Recommendation:

Consumers have been informed to check purchased mixed fruits, fruit blends, and fruits like bananas, cherries, pineapple, strawberries, and mangos.  The items should be thrown or returned to the seller for a refund. All possible contaminants listed at fda.gov showed different frozen natural product items.
