Kristen Anne Mewis, born on February 25, 1991, is an outstanding American professional soccer player known for her exceptional skills as a midfielder.

Currently, she plays for Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and proudly represents the United States national team.

Early Life and Education:

Hailing from Hanson, Massachusetts, Kristen had a remarkable journey in soccer.

She attended Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, where she played on the soccer team, leaving an indelible mark with 74 goals and 34 assists.

Kristen was a three-time NSCAA All-American, three-time All-New England and All-Massachusetts team honoree, and a three-time Eastern Massachusetts Girls Soccer Association Div. 1 First-Team All-Star.

Her exceptional talent earned her numerous accolades, including being named the NSCAA Youth Player of the Year and the US Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year in 2008.

The following year, she secured her spot on the prestigious Parade All-America team.

Her passion for the sport continued as she played for the Region 1 Olympic Development Program (ODP) team from 2003 to 2007.

Kristen even had the opportunity to play alongside her younger sister Sam at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Boston College, 2009–2012 Kristen’s college career kicked off at Boston College, where she showcased her immense talent as a freshman.

During her debut season, she recorded five goals and six assists, earning recognition as an All-ACC Freshman Team member, among other honors.

As a sophomore in 2010, Kristen demonstrated her prowess by leading the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in shots with 101. She scored ten goals and provided 14 assists, making her the ACC’s assist leader.

Her impressive performance led to numerous accolades, including being named an All-ACC first-team selection and a semifinalist for the prestigious Hermann Trophy.

Throughout her time at Boston College, Kristen consistently shone on the field. She led the team in scoring and assisting, earning various accolades, and setting records for her goal-scoring streaks and overall points.

She concluded her college career as the all-time leading scorer in the Boston College program, leaving an impressive legacy with 39 goals, 38 assists, and multiple memorable performances.

 

Club Career:

Kristen’s professional journey commenced in 2013 when she signed with the Australian W-League team Canberra United FC for the final two weeks of the 2012–13 season.

She later joined FC Kansas City for the inaugural season of the NWSL, showcasing her talents with consistent performances.

Over the years, Kristen represented various clubs such as Seattle Reign FC, Boston Breakers, Iga FC Kunoichi, FC Bayern Munich, Washington Spirit, Chicago Red Stars, and finally, Houston Dash. She continued to make her mark on the field, helping her teams to victory in the NWSL Challenge Cup in 2020 and securing multiple achievements throughout her club career.

In 2022, Kristen’s journey took her to Gotham FC, where she continues to shine as a talented midfielder.

International Career:

Kristen’s journey with the United States national team started in 2013. She made her senior team debut against Scotland and earned a spot on the roster for the 2013 Algarve Cup.

Over the years, she earned caps with the team but later faced a hiatus. However, her talent and dedication eventually earned her a call back to the national team in December 2019.

Since her return, Kristen has displayed her prowess on the international stage.  She scored crucial goals and made significant contributions to the team’s successes in various tournaments, including the SheBelieves Cup and the CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

Personal Life:

Kristen’s soccer journey is intertwined with her younger sister Sam Mewis, who is also an accomplished soccer player.

Previously, Kristen dated her former Dash teammate Rachel Daly, but since 2021, she has been in a relationship with Australian soccer player Sam Kerr.

Television and Film:

Kristen is set to appear in an upcoming Netflix documentary series following the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team as they compete in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Honors and Awards:

Throughout her career, Kristen Anne Mewis has earned numerous accolades and awards, including the United States Soccer Federation Young Female Athlete of the Year in 2008.
