Houston’s exceptional contributions to music were widely recognized, leading to multiple inductions into esteemed institutions such as the Grammy Hall of Fame (twice), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the New Jersey Hall of Fame, and the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.

Later, during her high school years, she became a background vocalist, honing her skills and preparing for the spotlight.

In 1981, Houston made history as one of the first black women to grace the cover of Seventeen magazine, captivating audiences with her beauty and talent.

At the age of 19, under the guidance of Clive Davis, the chairman of Arista Records, she signed with the label and embarked on her path to stardom.

Her first two studio albums, “Whitney Houston” (1985) and “Whitney” (1987), soared to number one on the Billboard 200 charts, becoming some of the best-selling albums in music history.

The hit singles from these albums, including “How Will I Know,” “Greatest Love of All,” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” became chart-toppers.

It also played a crucial role in breaking barriers for black female artists on the music video platform, MTV.

Continuing her chart-topping success, Houston’s third studio album, “I’m Your Baby Tonight” (1990), produced two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and “All the Man That I Need.”

In 1991, her soul-stirring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV garnered widespread media coverage and further solidified her status as a vocal powerhouse.

The multi-talented artist made her acting debut in the romantic thriller film “The Bodyguard” (1992), which, despite mixed reviews, became one of the highest-grossing films of its time.

The film’s soundtrack, featuring Houston’s powerful vocals, earned her a Grammy Award for Album of the Year and remains the best-selling soundtrack album of all time.

The timeless single “I Will Always Love You” from the soundtrack  won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year . It also spent a record-breaking 14 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Thus, etching its place in music history as the best-selling physical single by a woman.

Houston continued her acting career, starring in films like “Waiting to Exhale” (1995) and “The Preacher’s Wife” (1996). She further showcased her musical talents by recording the respective soundtracks, with “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” from “Waiting to Exhale” becoming her last Billboard Hot 100 number-one single. Additionally, Houston was involved in producing diverse movies and series, including “Cinderella” (1997), “The Princess Diaries,” and “The Cheetah Girls.”

Despite facing personal challenges and struggles, Houston’s musical prowess remained unmatched. Her 1998 studio album, “My Love Is Your Love,” generated several hit singles, such as the title track, “Heartbreak Hotel,” and the Academy Award-winning duet with Mariah Carey, “When You Believe.”

Tragically, on February 11, 2012, Houston accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills. Heart disease and cocaine use were listed as contributing factors to her untimely passing.

The world mourned the loss of this musical legend, and her death coincided with the 2012 Grammy Awards, where a touching tribute was paid to her remarkable career.

In 2022, her life and achievements were further celebrated through the biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”
